Answers to common questions about BinAtlas.

How do I get started?

Open BinAtlas and tap Print labels. Choose a label size, print a sheet and stick a label on each bin.

Then scan a label on the Scan screen. BinAtlas sets up the bin: take a few photos of what's inside, give it a name and a place, and add items if you like.

What should I print labels on?

Print labels shows the sizes it supports and suggests one for where your bins live: Avery 5168 stickers (3½ by 5 inches), Avery 8126 big stickers (5½ by 8½), Avery 5163 small stickers (2 by 4), Avery 22806 squares (2 by 2), or 3 by 5 cards, which you can print on card stock or plain paper and cut out.

Print at 100% (actual size), not “fit to page”, so the codes stay the size they were tested at.

How far away can a label be read?

At 2× zoom, from a dim garage to indoor light: about 7½ to 10 feet for cards, 9 to 11½ feet for stickers and 13 to 19 feet for big stickers. The small and square stickers are for bins within reach, at about 3 feet.

Can I use barcodes that are already on my boxes?

Yes. On a bin's screen, tap Link an existing barcode and scan it. From then on, scanning that barcode opens the bin.

Do I need an account?

No. BinAtlas uses your iCloud, so there's nothing to sign up for. To use your bins on more than one device, sign in to the same Apple Account on each and make sure iCloud is on for BinAtlas.

My bins aren't showing up on my other iPhone or iPad

Check that both devices use the same Apple Account, and that iCloud is on for BinAtlas: in the Settings app, tap your name, then iCloud, then See All, and turn on BinAtlas.

New photos can take a minute or two to arrive. Swipe down on Find or Bins to check for changes. Settings in BinAtlas shows when the device last synced.

How do I share my bins with my household?

With the Family plan, go to Settings, Household and tap Invite your household. You can send the invitation by Messages or Mail. The people you invite need BinAtlas and an Apple Account.

People in your Apple Family Sharing group get the Family plan too. Anyone else you invite can look, search and scan, and needs a plan of their own to make changes.

What happens if my plan ends?

Nothing is deleted. BinAtlas becomes read-only: you can still look through your bins, search, scan labels and export everything. Start a plan again to add and change things.

How do I cancel or change my plan?

In the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then BinAtlas. Settings in BinAtlas shows your plan and when it renews.

I have a plan. How do I get it on a new device?

Sign in to the same Apple Account, open BinAtlas, and go to Settings, Your plan, Restore purchases.

How do I make an insurance report?

In Settings, Home inventory, tap Make insurance report. You can also make a report for one place from its screen, or a claim report with only the places, bins or things you choose.

To add a value, receipt or serial number, open an item and tap Value and proof.

Can I get my data out of BinAtlas?

Yes. Settings, Export a spreadsheet makes a CSV file of every bin and item that opens in Numbers or Excel. Insurance reports are PDFs.

How do I delete everything?

In Settings, tap Erase all data and type ERASE. It deletes your bins from this device, from iCloud and from your other devices. It can't be undone.
